Maria Zavala, 2Gen Specialist at The Family Partnership, Minneapolis, MN, noticed something interesting recently.
Maria mentioned to her supervisor that out of all of the participants she is currently working with, the participants she had first introduced herself to as a mentor were doing better than those she had originally introduced herself to as an advocate—and she could not quite figure out why. Maria was very excited when she learned on last week’s webinar ‘Using Brain Science to Coach with High Expectations and Achieve High Outcomes’ that simply based on how you approach participants as a mentor, you have the opportunity to set them up to be 30% more likely to succeed. Maria felt affirmed and reassured that she was “not imagining things and that this is true, and it works.” She is looking forward to reading the full report which is now available in the member portal under the resources tab. This has also inspired Maria’s supervisor to think about re-framing how other staff members refer to Maria’s role when speaking to participants.
