March 12th, 2015 – MINNEAPOLIS – On Tuesday, March 10, Senator Tony Lourey (DFL) was honored with The Family Partnership’s Community Leadership Award. The award was presented to Lourey during the organization’s annual Day at the Capitol by Director of Public Policy Jeff Bauer, President/CEO Molly Greenman, and Board Chair David Brackett.
Senator Lourey was recognized for his efforts on behalf of children and families in Minnesota, particularly his steadfast commitment to building Minnesota’s Safe Harbor system, which has saved lives of sexually exploited children throughout the state.
“Senator Lourey is an incredible leader who faces the many tough decisions required of his position with great astuteness, candor, and compassion,” said Bauer. “Because of his efforts, many of Minnesota’s sexually exploited children now have access to the safe shelter and supportive services they need to heal and reclaim their lives.”
The Family Partnership Community Leadership Award is presented each year to an elected official who shows a heightened commitment to protecting children and supporting families in Minnesota. This is the sixth year the award has been presented. Previous awardees include: Representative Susan Allen (2014), Senator Sandy Pappas (2013), the late Representative Steve Smith (2012), Senators Joe Champion and Jeff Hayden (2011), and Senator Ellen Anderson (2010).
