ways to give

Volunteer

Volunteers play a vital role at The Family Partnership, contributing hundreds of volunteer hours and donating needed items each year. Community members like you help us provide enrichment opportunities and resources for clients, in addition to containing costs and allowing staff to spend more time providing trauma-informed care for the families we serve.

Ongoing Opportunities

Shift-type positions that are open throughout the year:

  • Admin Support – greet people who come to the building while doing typical office tasks
  • Big Little Library – organize books and decorate the space for seasonal occasions
  • Pop-in Volunteer – do something different each shift (great for those who like variety!)
  • PRIDE Building Support – play games and spend time with individuals in our PRIDE program
  • Teacher Aide – help out in classrooms at both of our preschools

Seasonal Projects

Project-based positions that change with the season:

  • Garden Upkeep (Summer) – keep the grounds looking pretty during warm months
  • Backpacks and teacher wish lists (August) – equip students and teachers with the materials they need for a successful school year
  • Holiday Sponsorship (Fall) – our biggest project! Match families with donors to make sure everyone gets a wrapped present during the winter holidays
  • Winter Clothes (Fall) – temperatures can be chilly! Help get hats, gloves, and coats to children and adults in need of warmth

Corporate, School, and Group Volunteering:

  • Ask about how your group can become involved with us!
  • St. Thomas BUS200 Students – increasing TFP’s capacity each semester since 2020
  • Macalester Green Energy Communication – students are designing a display that will convey all the ways that the Lake Street building is environmentally conscious

As-needed:

  • Event Support – help out with our annual fundraising lunch and other events throughout the year
  • Awareness post fliers in designated communities so people know where to access services
  • PRIDE Outreach – accompany staff to connect with clients in the community and hand out supplies
  • Donation Transport and Organization – organize donations we receive so they get to the people who need them in a timely manner

We can always use the following:

  • Snack bags for children coming to therapy directly from school
  • Gift cards for families in need of necessities (Walmart, Target, Cub, and Aldi are often requested)
  • Personal care packages for teens and women who are healing from sexual exploitation
  • Play-doh, flubber, or stress balls for the littlest-learners to develop finger strength and dexterity
  • Backpacks to fill with necessities and give out at outreach events
  • Journals for children, pre-teens, and teens accessing mental health programs
  • Winter clothes and coats in new or lightly-used condition (seasonal)
  • Holiday gifts, as part of individual family sponsorship or Toys for Tots (seasonal)
